Kinja'd!!!

Decided to swap out the French Marchal lamps for these Spanish made Kinby ones. They don’t have as nice of a beam pattern since they use H1 bulbs (and probably have less well designed lenses) but I like that slim style.

The cool thing about having an old car, where things like lights just bolt on, is you can swap out stuff like this in a minute or two. Auxiliary lights are kind of like “hats” for old cars. Just put on whatever you think looks coolest at the moment.

I’ll probably go back to the Marchal set in the future.

I need to remember the brand of foglights on the fintail:

Kinja'd!!!

I seem to recall they were actually made in Japan, but I am not certain of the details. They are fairly thin in profile, too. I think they are contemporary to the car. They were on the car when I bought it 20+ years ago - and have never worked, as I am too lazy to rewire them.

If Japan, probably IPF or Flamethrower/Pathfinder. They look like H3 units, so probably not older than early 1970s. The H1 bulbs appeared in the 1960s, and the horizontal bulb shields are the visual giveaway for those, I think the H3 bulb appeared around ‘68, ‘69, but it took a few years for it to displace the H1 styles.

IPF, that rings a bell. I remember opening them up at least 20 years ago, saw some missing parts, and quickly put them back together. I have a stack of documentation with the car, I might have a receipt.

The car moved from its first to second owner in 1970, that might be when they were added.

Did you pay a lot for those?

Through eBay I found once a brand-new set in... Belgium, of all places.

Kinbys are in fact licensed copies of older Carellos. All parts are interchangeable, although I still have to find any Carello reference that looks exactly the same as a Kinby.

Fun fact: Kinby used to sell some vinyl covers... depicting a single seater (likely an F1)! Why on earth would a monoposto be used to advertise fogs/spots/high beams?

(I just found this picture on the Internet and it turns out the glass looks the same as the one in a Carello foglight I bought years ago... but being compatible it could be a real Carello part. Who knows.)

Actually paid very little for them. I bought the spot light first, then thought I’d never be able to find a matching fog - but sure enough checked ebay and there was one listed for (I think I remember) $18.

It is interesting that the box shows lamps that look very much like Carello models, but the actual product itself has some differences.

Well, lucky you. I paid something like 60 euro for that pair and I still considered it an excellent price.

For reasons too complicated to mention some ten years ago I started a wild goose chase... trying to find a perfect pair of Kinby fogs (as the one depicted in the box). Until The Amazing Belgian Find I must have bought six or seven Kinby fogs - all with subtle (or not so subtle) variations in colour, glass pattern, bulb position, size and type of the Kinby script, and so on. I finally gave up and ended up buying all Kinby fogs and spots I saw in autojumbles (and compatible Carellos, if lucky enough to find them).

I must have around 20 of them in a nice blue plastic box. I had some spots restored and fitted a matching pair of early Kinby fogs (!) to a Mini.

The Amazing Belgian Find pair and the restored spots are patiently waiting for their turn.

In the meantime I still buy Kinbys every time I see them. And Carellos. ·

(No, I don’t understand it either)

I have a small box filled with old lamps... most of them unmatched. I don’t really have any use for spot lights, but the fogs can be useful for seeing curbs on unlit streets.

I’ve been looking for a Lumax spot to match the fog I had for a long time on the Saab.

But for some reason the early halogen spots are a lot harder to find than the fog version.

Found by chance while looking for spots brackets for an MG Metro. I suppose this is what you are looking for?
